So you might ask: What ‘happy’ food or drink are you talking about? Well, I can safely say… Wine tops my list. It’s not because of the alcohol content but partly. :-)

Most people associate wine drinking or alcohol drinks with ‘having a good time’. But, too much is catastrophic.

When you drink wine, it indirectly increases our feel-good chemical dopamine by inhibiting it from being broken down in the brain.

But, how much should we drink? About a glass of wine a day with the evening meal would be just perfect! Regularly drinking more only diminishes the effect, creating a tolerance that requires increasing amounts of alcohol to achieve the same mood enhancement. (more…)

Red wine is a popular drink in the US and considering that there are over 600 million gallons of wine sold there each year it’s good to know that it has health benefits too.

Red wine is a popular drink in the US and considering that there are over 600 million gallons of wine sold there each year it’s good to know that it has health benefits too.

The making and drinking of wine goes back thousands of years, in fact, remnants of wine found in a jar dating back to 5400 B.C. have been found in modern day Iran. And of course, the Egyptians partook of this tasty drink as a jar buried in the tomb of King Tut attests. Other Egyptian artifacts show that from at least 2500 B.C. many of the upper class enjoyed a glass (or clay goblet) every so often.

Red wine is more full bodied than white wine and has a distinct flavor due to the increase in tannins contained in the wine. (more…)
