The word ‘kegerator’ is a bit of a weird one, isn’t it? So what does it mean?

There’s a chance you’ve heard of a kegerator by one of it’s more well known alternative names, like keg coolers and keg refrigerators. And this device has 2 main functions: to deliver draft beer from a keg while simultaneously keeping it chilled as well. A great example of an effective and modern kegerator is the Haier hbf05eavs.

(So as you can probably guess from the above, the term ‘kegerator’ was actually borne from two separate words: the words ‘keg’ and ‘refrigerator’).

An excellent reason for using a kegerator, both at home or on a commercial level, is that they maintain the quality of a beer for such a long time. After a keg has been connected to a keg refrigerator, the beer will usually still taste great as much as 2 months later.

So, what does a kegerator look like these days?

For the most part, it doesn’t look all that different from a regular refrigerator, however most ready-made kegerators include a tank of carbon dioxide (to dispense the beer), a beer and air line, and a dispenser on top of the device through which to pour the beer.

While most kegerator parts will stay the same from country to country, there is one that changes – and it’s widely referred to as a “coupler”. For example, there are varying coupler systems for American beer, European beer, stouts and ales based in the United Kingdom, and yet more for German-based beers as well.

But don’t let that put you off. If you purchase a kegerator in the USA (or from the country you live in), the coupler will usually be correct for that location too. It’s possible to buy kegerators for both large-scale business and smaller-scale home usage, and they serve as a highly practical and efficient way to store and serve beer.
